AGE GRADE COMPETITIONS; IGALI CONDEMNS 'WIN AT ALL COST SYNDROME'

Bayelsa State Sports Commissioner, Dr Daniel Igali, has called on the federal government to be passionate on sports development so as to ensure athletes get the necessary adequate training and tension, ahead of major competitions. Igali made the call during a press briefing session with journalists in Asaba on Wednesday.  The call was made following the embarrassing outing of team Nigeria at the 2024 Paris Olympics. According to the world and Olympic champion, the fire brigade approach to tournaments has contributed to the underdevelopment of the game across the country, thus hindering the progress. Igali noted that if nigeria wants to do well in international events, it must re-channel its focus on things that mather, which is the age grade competition, stressing that deliberate steps must be made to eliminate age cheating as the aim of the tournament is being defeated. HON OSOMKIME BLANKSON UNITY  FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT: COACH ADA GWEGWE  HAIL ORGANIZERS  As the medien edition of the Hon. Osomkime Blanckson  goes into the quarter finals stage at Famgbe community football field in the Yenagoa local government area, Bayelsa state, Former Technical Adviser of Ocean Boys FC and and one time Bayelsa United Chief Coach, Ada Gwegwe, has joined other football stakeholders to praise the organizers of the competition.  A total of 12 teams in Atissa clan kicked off the competition few days ago, which has gotten to the semi finals stage. ATHLETICS: WINNERS EMERGE AS SAMKAY SECONDARY SCHOOL MEET ENDS IN YENAGOA  The one-day SamKay Athletics Meet for Secondary Schools have been concluded in Yenagoa with winners emerging in the 100metres boys and girls category, 400metres boys and girls, 800 metres boys and girls category as well as Long Jump for boys and girls. Several secondary schools including the Bishop Dimeari Grammar School (BDGS), St. Judes Girls Secondary School, Tessy Schools, Tare Pet Academy, Community Secondary School Biogbolo, Epie Secondary School amongst took to the tracks at the open championship, held at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa on Monday.
