2nd NIGER DELTA GAMES GETS UNDERWAY IN BENIN It was all glitz and glamour as the second Niger Delta Games commenced on Friday night in an electrifying atmosphere at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Edo state capital, xtrymeSports.blogspot.com reports. The tour of the Niger Delta Games torch for the 2nd Niger Delta Games, earlier today arrived in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, with stakeholders from the sports sector around to witness the event. www.xtrymesports.blogspot.com reports that the journey of the games torch kicked off in Calabar, and has traveled to Uyo, Umuahia, Owerri and Portharcourt. Although the arrival was originally billed for Saturday, February 14th, but for the anniversary celebrations of the Governor, it was shifted to Monday, 16th. Receiving the Torch at the ceremony which took place at the Samson Siasia Complex, Governor Douye Diri commended the organisers, the Niger Delta Development Commission and Dunamis Icon Limited for initiating the Games. Niger Delta Games: Gov. Diri to Receive Festival Torch in Yenagoa  Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State will lead a cast of government officials to receive the festival torch for the 2nd Niger Delta Games. The Festival Torch is expected to arrive in Yenagoa, the State capital on Saturday, February 14th, 2026. Incidentally, the event coincides with the 6th Anniversary of the Governor since he took the mantle of leadership in the State on February 14th, 2020. Governor Diri would be accompanied by the Commissioner for Sports, Daniel Igali and the Director of the State Sports Council, Andrew Aye to receive the torch on Saturday morning. Yenagoa Invitational Outdoor Park Volleyball Challenge Ends  Python Spikers of Rivers State have emerged champions of the just-concluded Yenagoa Invitational Outdoor Park Volleyball Challenge, following a dominant performance in the grand finale played in Yenagoa Bayelsa State. The Rivers State side Python Spikers stamped their authority on Paradise Pillars Volleyball Club of Crossriver winning  3–1, to clinch the coveted trophy and reaffirm their status as one of the strongest teams in the tournament. Refiners Volleyball Academy finished third. In the Park Volleyball category, the Strongest Volleyball Team of Bayelsa State emerged champions, winning a cash prize of ₦400,000.  Bori Camp Volleyball Club of Rivers State placed second with ₦300,000, while Refiners Volleyball Academy took third position with ₦200,000. NIGER DELTA GAMES: STATE AND LGA TRIALS BEGINS IN BAYELSA In its bid to ensure the best set of athletes represent the state at the forthcoming Niger Delta Games in Benin the Edo state capital, Bayelsa on Friday commenced trials for athletes. The state contingent emerged overall winners at the maiden edition of the games held last year in Uyo, a feat the authorities, administrators, as well as athletes are willing to repeat. State Sports Development Commissioner Hon Daniel Igali, Technical Adviser on Table Tennis, Mr Amaebi  Stow, Director of Sports, Mr Aye Andrew, Director General New Media and Chairman, State Athletics Association, De Kola Oredipe, alongside Heads of Department in the Sports Council were on ground to witness the trials.
