10TH SENATE PRESIDENT UNITY CUP: STAGE SET FOR QUARTER FINALS


The preliminary round of the ongoing 10th Senate President U-18 Boys Unity Cup came to a close on Matchday 4 on Wednesday, 13th November following the last set of group games.

In Group A, Qatar Football Academy of Bornu state emerged table toppers after their two-nil victory against Young Stars of Akwa Ibom, with Bolomi Mohammed and Zaremi Abubakar scoring the goals for the North Eastern side.

Kebbi Selected of Kebbi state settled for the second position and thanks to their one nil win over Qatar Football Academy on Tuesday, while Young stars of Akwa Ibom crashed out of the tournament due to goal differences.


Group B saw Great Olympic Lagos state sealing their dominance of the group with a one nil win over Sabon Fegi of Yobe state courtesy of David Thank God's effort. The Damaturu-based teams, however survived the drop, qualifying as second best team, while Dream Team of Kaduna state and Bayelsa's Ogboinbiri United finished third and fourth respectfully.

Tanko Academy of Nasarawa state proved their mettle by topping Group C following their four nil bashing of Enugu's Adoration FC on Matchday 4. Greatness Sporting Club of Ebonyi state finished second with three points, while Adoration FC of Enugu crashed out.

Agbana Wonderful FA of Ekiti state and Jibril FC of Benue state finished first and second respectively after both teams settled for a one all draw, with Kifa FC of Abuja, kissing the tournament goodbye.

Quarter final games gets under way on Thursday as Qatar Football Academy of Bornu takes on Sabon Fegi of Yobe state in an all Northern affair at 9am, Great Olympic of Lagos state lock horns with Kebbi Selected at 10am, the middle belters, Tanko Football Academy of Nasarawa state and Jibril FC of Benue will battle for supremacy at 11am, while the only Easteen side, Greatness Sporting Club of Ebonyi will be guest to Agbana Wonderful FA of Ekiti state at 12noon.

All games will be played at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.

Tagged the 'Renewed Edition' the edition the competition started on Sunday with 13 teams, two from each of the geopolitical zones, with only the Northcentral presenting three teams.

The finals is slated for Sunday, 17th.
