BAYELSA GOVERNOR COMMISSIONS WORLD CLASS TABLE TENNIS FACILITY IN YENAGOA
Governor Douye Diri on Wednesday Inaugurated a state of the art table tennis facility in Yenagoa, in a historic and memorable event attended by major sports stakeholders in the state and beyond, XtrymeSports.blogspot.com reports.
Governor Diri who was accompanied by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, noted that the initiator of the project, has written his name in the sands of time.
The world class ultra-modern table tennis facility, nicknamed “Coastal Fortress”, was single-handedly built by the Chairman, Table Tennis Association in Bayelsa, Mr. Ama-Ebi Ebikpolade Stow.
Inaugurating the beautiful edifice, Governor Douye Diri reiterated that sports development remains one of his administration’s “Assured” Prosperity program, as the sector is one area that can positively take the youths away from crime and criminality.
He stressed that aside education, sports has the capacity to give the youths a means of livelihood, stating that through skills and talents lots of personalities across the world have become famous and wealthy.
Expressing his gratitude to the Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association chairman for his investment in table tennis, the Governor stressed that Mr. Stow has reduced the pressure on government, urging other well meaning Bayelsans to emulate him, as he announced Mr Stow as his Technical Adviser on Sports, (Table Tennis), describing him as a role model to the younger generation.
Earlier, Mr Amaebi Stow, who doubles as the South South representative of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, remarked that his vision for the Coastal Fortress was to give table tennis players a comfortable environment to prepare for tournaments.
Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon Bukola Olapade, represented by his Special Adviser on sports Mr. Ebidowei Oweifie, said the event was a testament of the governor’s unwavering passion for sports development.
Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Igali, on his part , opined that the development of sports would not be complete without good facilities, pointing out that Mr. Stow’s contribution will add to more elevation of the state at future tourneys.
The highpoint of the event was the unveiling of the foreign coach, Luciano Esposito from Italy as well as Bayelsa State Table Tennis Team to the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
XtrymeSports.blogspot.com reports that the facility is equipped with a range of modern amenities which include two restaurants, chairman’s office, reception, sports lounges, separate changing rooms for athletes and four conveniences.
