NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL: TORCH OF UNITY ARRIVES BAYELSA*****

Coaches and athletes from Bayelsa State that will participate at this year's National Sports Festival billed for Ogun state has been called to consolidate on their performance at the maiden Niger Delta Sport Festival, and target a podium finish, XtrymeSports.blogspot.com reports.
Recall that Bayelsa won the first ever Niger Delta Sports Festival, organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, in Uyo last month.
State Governor, Senator Douye Diri who made this known shortly after the Torch of Unity which has been touring other states of the federation, arrived Yenagoa, on Monday, urged the team not to loose focus, but to work harder to ensure that the state claim the top spot, as it did during the Niger Delta Sports Festival.
Governor Diri who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo reiterated that the state was the prioritizing the sports sector due to weighty gains, which include engaging youths, building careers, creating wealth, health benefits and it's crusade against drugs.
"Like I said Bayelsa has taken sports as a major issue, as we are taking our youths all out of crime and taking crime out of our youths, because every youth that is into sports cannot be a criminal. We also using it to control drugs, because drugs and sports are diagonal and oppose each other."
"So we believe that we are taking sports seriously so we can get our youths out of drugs, and also earn a living".
Governor Douye Diri equally charged the National Sports Commission to put together a well organized and coordinated sports festival in spirit of fairness, equality and justice.
Earlier, Sports Development Commissioner, Daniel Igali said the state contingent was ready, as coaches and athletes have been preparing for the biannual event, expressing optimism that Bayelsa will shine in Abeokuta.
In their remarks, Chairman, House Committee on n Sports, Hon. Tare Porri, and Director of Sports, Sir Braveman Wodi, commended the Governor for his investment in sports.
Also speaking, representative of the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Mrs Ikana Mbora, said the commission was working assiduously to ensure a hitch free sports festival in Ogun state.
The 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged "Gateway Games Ogun 2025," is scheduled to take place in Ogun State from May 16 to May 30.
