ATHLETICS: WINNERS EMERGE AT ONE DAY MEET FOR U-15s IN BAYELSA
The Bayelsa State Athletics Association on Tuesday, put together a one day trial for Under 15 boys and girls with winners emerging in various categories.
The event was aimed at selecting the best athletes to represent the State at the forthcoming National Youth Games billed for Asaba.
XtrymeSports.blogspot.com reports that over two hundred aspiring athletes from across the State participated in the meet held inside the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa.
100 metres, 400m, 800m and 1500m track events as well as shot put, Long Jump and High Jump for field events and 100 metres hurdles demonstration, were among the events the young athletes featured.
Ebimoboere Eberiye Christopher and Godfrey Amalala became the fastest girl and boy at the competition.
In the 100 metres girls, young sprint sensation, Ebimoboere Eberiye Christopher who dusted other contenders, clocked a time of 12.52 seconds to win the dash, Paebi Gabriel who recorded 12.65 seconds to finish second, while Emmanuela Iga finished 3rd in 13.42 seconds.
For the 100 metres boys, Godfrey Amalala came tops with a time of 11.67 seconds, and was followed by Ebimotimi Peretimi who finished 2nd in 11.96 seconds while Sinivie Dema was 3rd in 12.15 seconds.
In other events, Sunshine Alex won the girls 400 meters in 1.07.22 seconds as Sinivie Deme took gold in the boys’ category in 56.68 seconds.
Success Okechi won the boys 1500 meters race as Victory Innocent emerged winner in the girls’ competition.
For the Field events, Chidera Uzubuenyi came tops in the boys’ long jump while Paebi Gabriel took the girls event.
Boys High Jump gold went to Godfrey Amalala with Tolomoere Moses clinching the girls contest.
Joseph Righteous won the top prize in boys’ shot put while Mienseigha Divine won in the girls’ category.
Founder, SamKay Athletics Club and Vice Chairman of the Bayelsa Athletics Association, Dr. Kolawole Oredipe said the performance of the young athletes at the one day meet was indicative of positive things to come for the Sport in the State.
The selected athletes at the one day trial will fly the flag of Bayelsa State at the 9th National Youth Games scheduled for Asaba, Delta State from August 26 to September 6, 2025.
