UNIVERSITY OF AFRICA'S JUDOKA LOSSES FINAL BOUT AT EKUS NATIONAL JUDO CHAMPIONSHIP
Despite being tipped as favorite to clinch gold at the finals of the just concluded 4th Ekus National Judo Championship in Benin City, Edo State, Master Bodou Durham Vincent lost the finals due to injury.
The championship, which commenced on July 1, 2025, concluded with the grand finale on Friday, July 5, 2025, XtrymeSports.blogspot.com reports.
The University of Africa judoka qualified for the finals in style, amand was tipped to clinch gold, but for injury during the finals, which saw him settle for silver.
Speaking to newsmen after the fight, Dr. Timi Igoli praised his athlete for showing resilience in all his fights.
"I'm very proud of Bodou Durham Vincent's record, and I'm happy we attended this championship to put him on show before the World University Games," he said.
Reacting to the development, Coach Ada Gwegwe stated, "I have said it time and again that the University of Africa has what it takes to excel and produce good athletes who can represent Bayelsa State at both national and international levels, especially with adequate sporting facilities."
The Chairman of the University of Africa's Sports Committee, Dr. Nancy Nnebuihe Nwosu, congratulated Master Bodou Durham Vincent on his achievement despite losing out on the top prize.
Vincent's feat is a significant step ahead of the World University Games in Germany later this year.
