NSF 2028: BAYELSA GOVT REAFFIRMS READINESS TO HOST EVENT; AS NATIONAL SPORTS COMMISSION INSPECTS FACILITIES


The National Sports Commission has commended the Bayelsa state government for its vision and drive to have one of the best sporting facilities in the country.

Director General, National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olapade gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Bayelsa governor, Senator Douye Diri in Government House, Yenagoa, in Tuesday.


Hon. Olapade, alongside some Directors at the Commission were in the state to inspect facilities following the state's recent bid to his the National Sports Festival in 2028.

Speaking during the visit the Director General praised the state for having what he described as a world-class Table Tennis facility and the best wrestling gym in the country, and also laud the Governor for the ongoing 35,000 capacity stadium project.

He stressed that with the current facilities on ground as well as those under construction, Bayelsa stands a chance to win the hosting rights, as he also gave the Governor thumbs up for his massive commitment and support in the sector which has seen the state's remarkable achievements in sports since he assumed office.

Responding, Governor Douye Diri reiterates his administration's readiness to empower youths of the state through sports, hence his unwavering support towards the sector.

The governor noted that the state has over the years, participated at National Sports Festivals, but couldn't host any due to lack of facilities, he has come to change the narrative.

He added that apart from upgrading existing sports facilities and the ongoing construction of a world-class stadium, his administration has also constructed several roads and has improved on the state's security, including installing closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) in order to checkmate crime and criminality.

While reiterating the state's readiness to host the 2028 National Sports Festival, Governor Douye Diri assured the Director General, National Sports Commission that the modern stadium will be completed at the stipulated time.
