SWAN @60: GOV. DIRI LAUDS SWAN'S COMMITMENT TOWARDS SPORTS DEVELOPMENT 


Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri says he is proud with the efforts and contributions of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, towards sports development in the state and country at large.

Governor Diri made the comment during the weekly Prosperity Walk on Thursday, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, Xtrymesports.blogspot.com reports.

Fondly called the Games Master General by sports stakeholders, the state helsman notes that sports writers have over the years played their part in promoting sporting activities organized by both government, corporate bodies and individuals, and by extension, promoted athletes, coaches and administrators.

He emphasized that youths were the major benefactors from sports, hence his commitment to sports development, as a way of empowering youths, which is part of his administration's ASSURED agenda.

On the 60th anniversary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Governor Douye Diri congratulated the association, and wished them a successful event in Abuja.

The Bayelsa governor who is among award recipients for his massive support that has transformed the state's sports sector, said due to other state affairs, he will be absent at the award presentation ceremony, however, noted that a state delegation will be sent to the event to receive the award on his behalf.

Governor Douye Diri, sports commissioner, Dr Daniel Igali, Works Commissioner, ESV Moses Teibowei, Director General, New Media Bayelsa State Government, Dr Kolawole Oredipe, alongside veteran journalists, Ebi Avi and Loveday Herbert, will be receiving awards at the ongoing 60th anniversary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria holding in Abuja.

The two day event began with lectures and panel sessions held yesterday at the VIP Lounge, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, and will climax today with the investiture of National Patrons, awards presentation, and the fundraising for the proposed SWAN House.
