UNIVERSITY OF AFRICA, TORU-ORUA MAKES HISTORIC DEBUT AT NUGA ZONE L PRELIMINARIES
The University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), has marked its maiden appearance as an observer at the Nigerian University Games, (NUGA) Zone L Preliminaries held in Port Harcourt, where it is showcasing the institution's commitment to sporting excellence.
XtrymeSports.blogspot.com reports that ten universities from Zone L converged at the event hosted at the University of Port Harcourt, and the Rivers State University campuses.
Participating institutions included University of Portharcourt, Rivers State, Rivers State University, Rivers State, Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Niger Delta University, Amassoma, Bayelsa State, Maritime University Okerenkoko, Delta State, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Imo State University Owerri, Imo State, Federal University of Owerri, Imo State, and Bayelsa Medical University Yenagoa.
Univeraity of Africa, Toru Orua's delegation led by Dr. Nancy Nnebuihe Nwosu, Chairman of the University's Recreation and Sports Committee, Coach Ada Gwegwe alongside some students, observed various sports including football, volleyball, handball, swimming, athletics, judo, karate, tennis, and basketball.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Nnebuihe Nwosu expressed delight in being part of UAT's historic debut, highlighting key learnings from the zonal preliminaries. She commended Coach Ada Gwegwe's dedication and acknowledged the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Solomon Tamarabrakemi Ebobrah, as well as the university's management for their support in making soure UAT participated.
Coach Ada Gwegwe echoed optimism, stating his dream of seeing UAT be at the NUGA Games has taken a significant step, noting that UAT have talented athletes and has recorded past successes, including medals won at the FISU Games.
UAT is set to conclude its observers' status in Jos next month, aiming for full recognition and participation at next year's NUGA Games.
