10th SENATE PRESIDENT UNITY CUP: ADHERE STRICTLY TO AGE BRACKET - Coach Ada Gwegwe

10th SENATE PRESIDENT UNITY CUP: ADHERE STRICTLY TO AGE BRACKET - Coach Ada

As the forthcoming coming and much anticipated second edition of the 10th Senate President's U-18 Unity Football Tournament draws near, Chairman of the screening committee, Coach Ada Gwegwe, has issued a stern warning to participating teams against the inclusion of over-age players in the competition.
In a statement signed and released by Mr Patrick Ndubuisi, the National Public Relations Officer, Grassroot Sports Federation, organisers of the competition, Coach Gwegwe emphasized that the screening process for this year's Senate President Cup will be rigorous and strictly enforced.

He notes that unlike last year where coaches brought several over-aged players, and the screening committee had compassion on some teams so as to meet up the FIFA approved minimum of seven players, this year will be different.

Coach Ada said, "The committee will leave no stone unturned in ensuring compliance with the age criteria."

"Last year we entertained a lot of pleas from coaches and we accepted it out of pity. We are warning now that teams must bring players of 18 years and below, and we will not listen to any appeal.
Coach Ada Gwegwe stressed that should any team fall short of the minimum number of players following the screening, the team will be asked to exit the competition.

"Let me make it categorically clear to all participants that after screening, any team that doesn't have up to the minimum of seven players will be asked to go back to their state."

"We in Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF), are critical when it comes to age grade competitions because of our goals and objectives, so coaches and officials should take not of this and act accordingly".

"Participating teams are hereby advised to ensure strict compliance with the tournament's age regulations to avoid disqualification," Coach Gwegwe warned.

He notes that for this year's screening, the committee will employ multiple verification methods including National Identification Number (NIN) checks, physical assessments involving weight and height measurements, among other evaluation techniques.
