10TH SENATE PRESIDENT'S CUP: SEMI FINAL, FINAL TEAMS EMERGE
Essien Udim FC of Akwa Ibom, Great Olympic Football Academy of Lagos, Jaguar FC (Abia, and Tanko Baba of Nasarawa have booked their place in the semi finals of the ongoing second edition, 10th Senate President's Unity Cup in Abuja.
www.xtrymesports.bligspot.com reports that the competition ongoing at the Old Parade Ground, Garki, concluded the quarter final games in the men category and the semi final fixtures in the women category.
The first quarter-final clash between Kaduna United and Essien Udim of Akwa Ibom state started with high intensity, showcasing determination to secure a semi-final ticket.
Despite several scoring opportunities, neither side could break the deadlock in the first half, which ended goalless.
The breakthrough finally came in the 42nd minute of the second half when Jersey No. 14, Aniemeni Omoetok of Essien Udim capitalized on a defensive error by Kaduna United, to calmly slot home the decisive goal.
Kaduna United pushed for an equalizer but failed to convert their chances, and the match ended with a lone goal in favor of Essien Udim FC.
The second quarter final game saw the first team that booked their quarter final spot, Gamji FC of Taraba bowing out of the competition 3-5 via penalties following a barren draw.
In the third quarter final game, Great Olympics FA of Lagos booked their semifinal spot after a tight contest with fellow westerners, Agbana Wonderful FA of Ekiti. The game ended in a barren draw, with the Lagos team cruising to a 5-4 win via penalties.
The last quarter final fixture saw Wildred Mde's strike in just a minute and twenty two seconds to seal the win for Tanko Baba FC of Nasarawa against Kebbi Selected, thereby breaking his initial fastest goal record of one minute fifty two seconds.
Tanko Baba becomes the first team to play in two successive semi finals of the 10th Senate President's Unity Cup, after achieving the same feat last year.
In the female version, Elegant Angels of Akwa Ibom booked their spot in the finals after a two nil win over Young Stars of Niger state courtesy of a brace from Testimony Nyong, while the second semi final fixture, FCT Ladies came from a goal down to win two goals to one against Horvel Prime of Plateau state.
Esther Victor got the goal for the Plateau team in the first half, but the determined FCT Ladies rallied round into the game in the second half, with Success Isaac and striker, Joy Onahi Ochibudu finding the back of the net.
