GRASSROOTS SPORTS: BASKETBALL CLINIC HOLDS IN YENAGOA 

Following successes achieved in Basketball over the years, a clinic is set to hold in Yenagoa the state capital, XtrymeSports.blogspot.com reports.

Organized by the Patriots Bayelsa Academy in collaboration with the state Basketball Association, the basketball clinic aims to scout for young talents so as to nurture them to stardom in the coming years.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday in Yenagoa, multiple award winning coach, Mr. Nelson Tony said the idea was to raise players that will take over from the existing ones.

He said the theme is 'Let's Focus on the Root, not on the Grass' is all geared towards repositioning the sports for more victories, so that there won't be a lacuna when already made basketballers leave for greener pastures.

"We are organizing a basketball clinic to identify young talents who are hungry to play basketball and take it as a career. Bayelsa has done well in basketball, winning several national and regional laurels over the years, and we don't want to stop winning."

Moreso, some athletes are getting scholarships abroad, while others are joining various clubs at across the country, so we are using this clinic to raise more talents and prepare them for the games ahead."

The clinic tagged, Bayelsa State Youth Basketball Clinic for Boys and Girls, is slated for November 25th to 27th, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa.

OSOMKIME BLANKSON UNITY TOURNEY HOLDS DRAWS ***As Tournament Kicks Off November 20th Organisers of the maiden Osomkime Blankson Unity Football Tournament for Yenagoa Local Government Area have held the draws for the maiden edition of the tournament. A total of thirty five teams have registered to take part in the tourney that will kick off on the 20th of November, 2025. According to the organizers, the shift in date from September 28th to November 20th was necessitated due to pleas from players and officials owing to the incessant downpour, which will hinder free flow of football, and also deny them from showcasing their skills. The thirty five teams were grouped into four, namely Epie, Atissa, Okordia Zarama Buseni and Gbarain Ekpetiama, as sixteen teams will qualify for the Round of sixteen after the preliminary round. OSOMKIME BLANKSON UNITY TOURNEY KICKS OFF IN YENAGOA **** As Famgbe, Yenezue-gene Fire Blank In Opener The Opolo community school field was agog on Friday as the much anticipated maiden Osomkime Blankson Unity Football Tournament for Yenagoa council area kicked off in the capital city. Thirty five teams drawn from the communities within Yenagoa are participating in the competition. Sponsor of the tournament, Hon. Chief Osomkime Blankson, led other notable personalities from the council area, including paramount rules of neighboring communities to the opening ceremony.
