Bayelsa Athletes Express Readiness To Defend Niger Delta Games Title
Bayelsa State athletes are confident about defending their Niger Delta Games title at the upcoming 2nd edition in Benin City, Edo State.
The team won the inaugural edition in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, with 86 medals, including 42 gold, 29 silver, and 15 bronze.
The athletes, including wrestlers Emmanuel Okike and Ebiere Frank, and basketball player Gonibo Jessica, expressed their determination to retain the title, praising the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for introducing the games to promote sports development in the region.
Bayelsa athletes are confident about defending their title, citing their impressive performance in the inaugural edition.
The athletes have been training hard, and the state government has provided support to ensure their success.
The NDDC introduced the Niger Delta Games to promote sports development and engage youths in the region.
The athletes commended the NDDC and Dunamis Icon Limited for the initiative and urged the commission to sustain the competition.
About 16 sports are lined up to be competed for during a week long event, including football, - male and women, athletics, chess, Scrabble, para powerlifting, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, boxing, etc.
