5TH PASTOR UMO ENO EASTER UNDER-17 UNITY CUP: ORGANISERS FIX FRIDAY FOR FINALS**** AS GOV. UMO ENO MARKS 62ND BIRTHDAY;

The stage is set for the grand finale of the 5th Pastor Umo Eno Easter Under-17 Unity Cup scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, 24th April 2026 at 3PM, at the magnificent Uyo Township Stadium, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

This year’s edition is significant as it is also being used to commemorate the 62nd birthday of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, who turns 62 tomorrow.

The highly anticipated final match will see Hon. Frank Achibong Babes FC of Eket, lock horns with Macito Solution FC of Uyo, in what promises to be a thrilling climax to this year’s edition.

Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, is expected to grace the grand finale as the Special Guests of Homour, while the Commissioner for Sports Development, Elder Paul Bassey, will serve as the Chief Host.

The finals will be declared open by Hon. Frank Archibong, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Member representing Oruk Anam/Ukanafun Federal Constituency, and Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, and Hon. Frank Archibong will be honoured for their contributions to grassroots sports development.

Organized by the Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF) under the ARISE Agenda of the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, the 5th edition has directly impacted over 6,000 youths across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State. 

Beyond football, this year’s tournament carries added significance as it celebrates the 62nd birthday of the Governor, whose passion for youth empowerment birthed the competition.

The tournament has served as a platform for discovering and showcasing new football talents, with scouts and agents expected at the finals.

Speaking ahead of the finale, the organizers noted that “this tournament is more than football. It is about unity, youth empowerment, and building the next generation of stars for Akwa Ibom and Nigeria. As we celebrate His Excellency’s 62nd birthday tomorrow, Uyo Township Stadium go boil as we crown the champions of the 5th edition.”  

Members of the public, football lovers, and supporters are invited to come and witness the parade of new stars, join in celebrating the Governor’s 62nd birthday, and be part of history as the 5th edition comes to a grand close.

OSOMKIME BLANKSON UNITY TOURNEY HOLDS DRAWS ***As Tournament Kicks Off November 20th Organisers of the maiden Osomkime Blankson Unity Football Tournament for Yenagoa Local Government Area have held the draws for the maiden edition of the tournament. A total of thirty five teams have registered to take part in the tourney that will kick off on the 20th of November, 2025. According to the organizers, the shift in date from September 28th to November 20th was necessitated due to pleas from players and officials owing to the incessant downpour, which will hinder free flow of football, and also deny them from showcasing their skills. The thirty five teams were grouped into four, namely Epie, Atissa, Okordia Zarama Buseni and Gbarain Ekpetiama, as sixteen teams will qualify for the Round of sixteen after the preliminary round. OSOMKIME BLANKSON UNITY TOURNEY KICKS OFF IN YENAGOA **** As Famgbe, Yenezue-gene Fire Blank In Opener The Opolo community school field was agog on Friday as the much anticipated maiden Osomkime Blankson Unity Football Tournament for Yenagoa council area kicked off in the capital city. Thirty five teams drawn from the communities within Yenagoa are participating in the competition. Sponsor of the tournament, Hon. Chief Osomkime Blankson, led other notable personalities from the council area, including paramount rules of neighboring communities to the opening ceremony.
